Cotton reels are oversize paddock stand bobbins, which screw into the paddock stand holes in your swingarm. They offer the dual purpose of protecting your swingarm and enabling the bike to be lifted on a rear stand. Projecting from the driveline side of the BMW R 1300 GS (2024+), the nylon bobbin head and aluminium centralising spacer protects the rear of the Cardan drive shaft casing, hub and wheel. Made from injection-moulded nylon, the bobbin head sits above an aluminium centralising spacer and revolves with the wheel to minimise impact damage on one area and reduce stress on the wheel. A machined and coated aluminium hub stop on the non-drive side complements the GS' stylish design.

The end result is that all EP components fit precisely and work perfectly at protecting the Triumph Tiger 900 Rally Pro dual-radiators from damage caused by road / off-road debris (stones, mud, dropped waste etc), while at the same time allowing cool air to pass through. The radiators' thin, soft aluminium cooling fins and internal cores are very susceptible to being hit or holed by debris that can be picked up by the front tyre or other traffic and flung directly into the radiators.
